Some notes provided by Jim Greener in a May 25 2008 Sunday School class at Pekin Bible:
We are told by Solomon that God delights in hearing the prayers of His people (Proverbs 15:8)
The Biblical requirements for prayer include: faith & love (Galatians 5:6; Hebrews 4:1-3), thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6), personal obedience (john 15:7, I John 3:22), praying in the name of Jesus (John 14:13, 15:16, 16:23-24)
The Biblical results of prayer include: fruitbearing (John 15:16), joy (John 16:23-24), obtaining good things from God (Matt 7:7-11), and the avoidance of temptation (Matt 26:41)
The bible warns us about things that may hinder or prevent our prayers from being acted upon by God. Any form of sin or idolatry blocks our communication with God (Ps 66:18, Eze 14:3-4), If we fail to forgive others we hinder our prayers (Mark 11:25) and when husbands fail to honor their wvies they risk having their prayer life hindered (I Peter 3:7)
